1. Grace
- Grace is the strengthening enabling power of Jesus Chris.
- The Grace of Christ strengthens us and assists us in doing
good works and moving forward. It also
is the enabling power that allows us to lay
hold on eternal life and exaltation after our own best efforts.
- Because Grace comes through Christ it is first requisite
that one have Faith in Christ.
- Ephesians 2:8-9 : For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man
should boast.
-Elder Bednar: In the strength of the Lord and through His
grace, I know that you and I can be blessed to accomplish all things.
2. Faith
- Faith is a hope for and belief in something that is not
seen but which is true. It is an
action/driving/motivating force.
- To have faith is to have confidence in something or
someone.
- Example: Hebrews 11: 17-19 : By faith Abraham when he was
tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his
only begotten son, Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called;
Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence
also he received him in a figure.
- Thus for us to receive mercy, justification,
sanctification, and grace we must have hope, confidence, and an assurance in
the Lord Jesus Christ.
3. Righteous Works
- For a work to be Righteous it must be done with faith in
God and His Son.
- Philippians 2: 13: For it is God which worketh in you both
to will and to do of his good pleasure.
4. Mercy
- Mercy is not receiving that which you rightly and lawfully
deserve.
- Mercy is being forgiven for our sins without being case out
of Heaven forever. We only receive mercy
through Jesus Christ because God is perfectly just. Therefore mercy requires faith in the Lord
Jesus Christ and Righteous Works in doing what He asks.
- 2 Timothy 1:9: Who hath saved us, and called us with an
holy calling, not according to our woks, but according to his own purpose and
grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.
5. Justification
- Justice is the unchanging law that brings consequences for actions
and penalties. Justification is the
paying of this price or penalty. We are
justified through Jesus Christ it therefore requires faith in Him to be
justified.
- Galatians 2:16: Knowing that a man is not justified by the
works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in
Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the
works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
- We are therefore justified through faith in Jesus
Christ. We trust Him, follow Him, do His
will, and keep His commandments, then we are justified through Him.
-Elder Packer: If justice decrees that we are not eligible
because of our transgression, mercy provides a probation, a penitence, a
preparation to enter in.
6. Sanctification
- Sanctification is the purging and washing from spot. It is to take something that was not clean
and make it pure without spot.
-1 Corinthians 6:11: And such were some of you: but ye are
washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord
Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
- We are sanctified by the Holy Ghost, through the blood of
Christ, by our faith in Him, with the help of His grace.
